The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) welcomed the annual celebration of National Women’s Month through a Flag Raising Ceremony on 6 March 2023 at the Multi-Purpose Hall.
Sponsored by the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) members, the activity paved the way for the announcement of the NWMC’s new theme, “WE for gender equality and inclusive society”, and the lined-up activities for TransCo including the conduct of webinars and face-to-face lectures, online advocacy campaigns, women’s bazaar, and advocacy fun walk.
According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the new recurring theme from this year to 2028 “sparks a renewed commitment to the advocacy and banks on the gains achieved during the 2016-2022 theme, WE Make CHANGE Work for Women, which emphasized the need for compassionate and harmonized networks towards gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE).”
‘Women are movers of change’
To honor women’s valuable role in society, TransCo invited 1st District Laguna Representative Hon. Ma. Rene Ann Lourdes G. Matibag to serve as the event’s Keynote Speaker. Rep. Matibag is a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Energy.
In her speech, she said that NWMC amplifies women’s voice to bright forth women’s achievements in various fields, and emphasized that the celebration is the perfect time to re-echo the situation of women who are victims of abuse, sexism, and discrimination, and to likewise reflect the importance of gender equality in society.
“I challenge everyone to take an active step. We can all be movers of change for the betterment of our society. We can be the change we want to see. It all starts with our personal commitment,” Rep. Matibag furthered.
