There’s no fitting way to celebrate National Women’s Month than by building the capacities of women to integrate Gender and Development (GAD) concepts as they carry out their day-to-day roles and responsibilities.
On 20 March 2023, the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) held a capacity-building session on gender-fair technical and business writing with FORA Communications President and National Gender and Development Resource Pool (NGRP) member Atty. Allen L. Espino as the resource person.
During the seminar-workshop, participants were made aware of the types of sexism in language and ways to avoid such words in crafting future business letters and other communications. They were likewise trained on the importance of using gender-neutral language to promote inclusivity, diversity, mutual respect, and dignity at the workplace. At the end of the seminar, the selected 37 participants were expected to conduct an echo session with other members of their respective functional groups.
On March 23, 2023, members of the TransCo GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) and a few program implementers attended a capacity-building workshop on Gender Analysis (GA) and the use of the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) Tool.
The workshop, facilitated by independent GAD consultant and NGRP member Ms. Jemelle Zamora-Milanes, refreshed the participants on the importance of integrating gender perspectives in all phases of program development and the step-by-step process on how to accomplish the HGDG checklists. According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the HGDG tool will help the agencies achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment results in their programs and projects.
