TransCo holds activities in support of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW

To amplify the objectives of the 2023 18-Day Campaign to End VAW observed every 25 November to 12 December, TransCo, through its GPFS in partnership with the MOVE TransCo Chapter, spearheaded various activities to engage its employees, which included a self-defense training and an inspirational film screening.

On 29 September 2023, TransCo commenced its self-defense training sessions in Krav Maga. Facilitated by Dindo D. De Jesus, President of the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF), these sessions took place every Tuesday following the kickoff. The goal of the sessions was to empower both female and male employees of TransCo, enabling them to identify potential threats and effectively prevent physical altercations. The training focused on equipping TransCo’s workforce, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, with practical self-defense techniques to de-escalate, mitigate, and evade risks.

The self-defense program concluded with a session on firearm safety and shooting training on 6 December 2023, at the Stronghand Shooting Range in Quezon City. Twenty-five employees, both female and male, participated in this training.

Aside from the self-defense training sessions, TransCo introduced “TransCowento: Buhay at Trabaho,” a quarterly film screening initiative. This activity aimed to inspire TransCo employees to foster positive work attitudes, enhance productivity, and increase client satisfaction. Additionally, it sought to bolster core competencies and leadership skills and sustain awareness of gender and development. The film screening likewise hopes to translate principles into practical approaches to addressing issues, promoting gender equality, and empowering women.

Led by TransCo-GFPS, MOVE TransCo Chapter, and the Human Resource Management and Development Division, the inaugural film screened was “Barber’s Tales (Mga Kuwentong Barbero),” directed by Jun Lana. This screening, held on 30 November 2023, saw participation from 35 employees. Post-screening, participants engaged in a guided discussion, sharing their insights and takeaways from the film.
