The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) culminated its National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) activities with an advocacy walk that featured male employees who are partners in the advocacy of protecting, promoting, and fulfilling women’s human rights.
On 31 March 2022, more than a hundred employees joined the “In Her Shoes” Advocacy Walk around the NPC Compound led by male employees and members of TransCo Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) Chapter. Wearing high heels, the male participants marched with pride and raised placards to confront gender stereotypes and gender-based violence.
In his Opening Remarks, TransCo MOVE Chapter President and Human Resource and Administrative Department (HRAD) Manger Mr. Michael A. Vivas said that both women and men suffer from gender stereotypes and sexualized violence in society. According to him, the only way to address these problems is by empowering both sexes to engage and participate in the gender mainstreaming efforts of the government and other civil society organizations.
“This is what the TransCo Chapter of MOVE stands for: To show and actively participate in ending gender violence in all its forms. Men stand with women in making change work for women amid the crisis that we have been experiencing, including the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
Advocacy Walk in Baguio City
Prior to the conduct of activity in NPC compound, around 20 employees of TransCo-Utility Management Department (UMD)- Baguio City Economic Zone (BCEZ) were the first to conduct the advocacy walk on 22 March 2022 at the PEZA-Baguio Complex in Loakan Road, Baguio City.
Aside from the conduct of advocacy walk, BCEZ employees attended a short discussion on Gender and Development (GAD) Concepts and Magna Carta of Women (MCW).
